Lamamra AU NEPAD July 2016KIGALI- Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International CooperationRamtane Lamamra has called, Wednesday in Kigali (Rwanda), to adopt a rational and resolute approach for Africa's political and economic integration.

Lamamra, who is chairing the meeting of the Ministerial Follow-up Committee on the implementation of the African Union Agenda 2063, underlined the need for the AU to adopt a rational and resolute approach to all its actions with a view to meeting the aspiration of the African peoples as well as the security and development challenges in Africa.

He added that the implementation of the ambitious AU Agenda 2063 required taking into consideration "the predictability and sustainability of financing of its major programmes, the respect for AU's positions and decisions, coordination of AU Member States' action within the different international organizations, identification of priority action and optimization of AU's resources."

The Committee was set up by the AU Executive Council in Bahr Dar, Ethiopia, in July 2013 and was tasked with monitoring the implementation of AU agenda 2063.

The Agenda 2063 constitutes a road map of the AU for the next 50 years regarding peace, security and development in Africa.

The Committee is made up of five AU member states, one state representing each region in addition to incoming and outgoing presidents.

Kigali's meeting was held in presence of the chairperson of the AU Commission, the executive secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and executive secretary of the NEPAD (New Partnership for Africa's Development) Agency.

The meeting follows that held in Windhoek (Namibia) in June and during which the Committee's member states discussed means and ways to strengthen its prerogatives in order to ensure better implementation of the AU priority programmes and actions.
