ORAN - Algeria has always worked to make peace achievement in Africa an essential line of its foreign policy, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ramtane Lamamra, affirmed Saturday in Oran.

"Under the leadership of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and his constant commitment to peace in our continent, Algeria, has made this principle, an essential thrust of its foreign policy," said Lamamra in his address at the opening of the 4th High Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa.

In this regard, the Minister recalled that "Algeria has conducted several mediation missions, at the national level or within the framework of the African Union, such as the conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea or the mediation, led since 2014 for the settlement of the Malian crisis.”

"This very approach that Algeria intends to promote in Libya, by supporting the UN-led mediation process and through the initiative of Libya’s neighboring countries Algeria launched in 2014," he said.

In this regard, Lamamra stressed that Algeria continues to encourage the Libyan parties to promote dialogue without interference or foreign intervention.

The Algerian top diplomat calls for supporting the actions engaged by the African Union, which aim at a restoring peace and stability in those countries.

The "AU, which is the voice bearer of the African peoples and their aspirations, today represents a reliable an credible partner for the international community, thanks to the unity of its members," said Lamamra, while regretting the "attempts of division" during the last African-Arab Summit in Malabo.

"This attempt illustrates the threats that the African Union faces in its integrity and also reflects the strong determination of the member states to protect the cohesion of this continental organization," he added.

The coming AU Summit will be the suitable opportunity to reaffirm the unity and the integrity of this Organization, stressed Lamamra.
