AU CPSADDIS-ABABA – Algeria has been elected on Friday at the African Union Peace and Security Council by the AU Executive Council for a three year term, until 2022.

This election took place this morning after the resumption of the 34th regular session of the Executive Council, in a session focused to the renewal of components of several bodies of the African Union, including the Peace and Security Council.

The Peace and Security Council of the African Union was established in 2002, and operationalized in 2004, as a restricted body of (15) fifteen member States, responsible for issues related to peace, stability and security in Africa.
