MFA AlgiersALGIERS – Algeria, on Wednesday August 19th 2020, has reiterated its “firm rejection” of any unconstitutional Government change in Mali, especially since the doctrine of the African Union (AU) in terms of respect for the constitutional order “cannot be violated.”

"Algeria reiterates its firm rejection of any unconstitutional change of government, in accordance with the relevant instruments of the African Union, in particular the Algiers Declaration of 1999 and the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance of 2007," said in a Statement the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

And also, to affirm that "the doctrine of the African Union regarding respect for constitutional order cannot be violated".

Algeria, which said is following with "very great concern the situation in Mali, a brotherly and neighbouring country," called on "all parties to respect the constitutional order and to come to their senses for a rapid end to the crisis".

She recalled, in this regard, that "only the ballot box is the way to the accession to power and legitimacy".
