ALGIERS-Algeria "fully" assumes its responsibility as a player in the Sahel-Saharan region's fate, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra stressed Sunday in Algiers.

"Algeria, whose positive role is wished and hailed by all Malian forces and political players, and regional and international organizations, invests its authority in Mali's future as an important player for peace and stability in the whole Sahel-Saharan region," Lamamra stressed in an interview with APS on the occasion of the 1st anniversary of the Agreement signing.
In this regard, he affirmed that Algeria "fully assumes its responsibilities as a player in the fate of this particularly sensitive geostrategic space."
As for a possible Algerian added value to speed up the success of the Agreement, Lamamra stated that Algiers "scrupulously works for bringing the Malian parties closer and strengthen cooperation between them, as a major guaranty of a successful implementation of the agreement."
In this regard, Algeria's top diplomat recalled that Algerian-Malian bilateral cooperation mechanisms "regularly hold their meetings and periodically assess all possible adjustments to maximise results of multifaceted bilateral cooperation", he added.
"New meetings have already been scheduled for all mechanisms in the upcoming months," he announced.
Lamamra stressed that President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, "who is personally aware of Malian realities, attaches the greatest importance to efforts and actions in favour of this space, particularly in terms of security and development."
In this regard, he affirmed that Algeria "will spare no effort for a greater interest of the international community in Mali and the Sahel-Saharan region through genuine actions based on a lucid view of challenges."
For Lamamra, the added value brought by Algeria's contribution "undoubtedly lies in the two countries' interweaving geography and history, particularly the trust of the Malian people and president in Algeria and its President."
"It also lies in Algeria's willingness to fulfil its commitment to just and peaceful African solutions in Mali and the whole continent," Lamamra pointed out.
