Messahel CICALGIERS - Algeria which makes "huge efforts" to ensure the security of its territory and borders is willing to share with all the countries of the region and the international community its experience in combating terrorism, Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel said Tuesday in Algiers.

"Algeria is making substantial efforts to guarantee the security of its territory and its borders, and will spare no efforts to share with all the countries of the region and the international community its (counterterrorism) experience as part of the bilateral, regional and international cooperation programmes," he told the opening meeting of the 2nd session of the Working Group of the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum (GCTF) on the capacity building in the West Africa region.

The Minister added that Algeria was honoured to give its "modest contribution" to the collective effort for peace, security and stability in the West Africa and in Africa, which is directly threatened by expanding terrorism.

For Messahel, the joint fight against terrorism and violent extremism has strengthened through the significant efforts made for this purpose, as part of the "regional and multinational frameworks of cooperation, like the Global Counterterrorism Forum or the African Union."

"The knowledge of the terrorist and extremist evil improved, despite its remarkable capacity of mutation and innovation," he said.

The 2nd session of the Working Group of the Global Counter - Terrorism Forum (GCTF) on the capacity building in the West Africa region reflects the participants’ belief in the need to consolidate the bilateral, regional and international cooperation.

It also showed that participants have “appropriately measured” the terrorist threat to the individual and collective security in the West Africa region and that they are willing to contribute to this joint fight against terrorism in its dimensions "in compliance with our sovereignties."

For Messahel, more countries are feeling the "multiform causes and dangerous impacts" of radicalization and violent extremism, and respond by preventing radicalization and violent extremism through appropriate plans and laws.”

More than 100 experts in prevention and fight against terrorism and extremism representing GCTF member countries, West African nations as well as international and regional organizations, including the United Nations, the African Union, the Arab League, the Islamic Cooperation Organization, the European Union (EU), Afripol, Europol and Interpol will take part in the GCTF meeting and the (West African) Police Cooperation workshop.
